A resume isn't a record of what you've done.
It's an argument for what you could do next.
At Spinnaker Directions, our writing team combines deep careers expertise with professional editorial craft. We work with you directly, asking the right questions, drawing out the details that matter, and translating your background into language that resonates with hiring managers and recruiters across industries and geographies.
Professionally written, beautifully formatted, and tailored to your target role and industry. We handle everything from your first job to the top job.
A cover letter should do what a resume can't. Reveal your motivation and voice. We write letters that are read, not skimmed.
From headline to About section, we optimise your profile so it works for you around the clock to attract opportunities even when you're not actively looking.
Government and academic roles demand structured, evidence-based responses. We know exactly how to frame your experience to meet and exceed the standard.
Already have a resume but know it's not doing you justice? We'll review, restructure, and rewrite to bring it up to standard.
Board profiles, speaking bios, conference introductions: concise, authoritative narratives for senior professionals who need to make every word count.
Everything you need to know before we get started.
Yes. Resume conventions vary considerably between industries and between countries. A resume that works well in Australia may need meaningful changes for the US, UK, Canada, or Ireland. Similarly, what reads well in financial services may not land the same way in the creative sector or government.
When we take on your project, we'll ask about your target role, sector, and geography. Our writers have experience across a wide range of industries, including corporate, legal, healthcare, technology, education, government, and the non-profit sector. We stay current with what hiring managers in each space actually want to see. If you're targeting multiple countries or pivoting into a new industry, just let us know upfront and we'll discuss the best approach.
Selection criteria are a structured set of requirements, most commonly used in government, academic, and some large not-for-profit roles that applicants must address in writing as part of the application process. Rather than simply submitting a resume and cover letter, you're asked to provide specific, evidence-based responses demonstrating how you meet each criterion.
They matter enormously because they are often the primary basis on which applications are scored and shortlisted. A strong resume won't compensate for weak selection criteria responses. Many otherwise-qualified candidates are screened out at this stage simply because they haven't structured their responses correctly, used the right language, or provided sufficiently concrete examples.
Our team is highly experienced in writing selection criteria responses using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and other recognised frameworks. We work with you to identify the best examples from your career and present them in a way that clearly and compellingly meets the brief.
Our standard timeframe is 3–5 business days for a full resume package, subject to writer availability at the time of your enquiry. If you have a deadline, please mention it when you first get in touch and we'll let you know immediately whether we can meet it.
The best advice, of course, is not to wait until the last minute — a good resume deserves the time to get it right. And remember, it is never too early to have a professionally written resume, just in case something catches your eye.
